Supporting History at Home
- Visit museums or historical places of interest. Sometimes a walk into town can be enough – buildings can have marks and signs that signify their age which can be a fantastic starting point for a historical discussion or some research. There are many areas even within Shropshire that have Tudor buildings right in the heart of the town.
- Talk to them about the topics they are doing at school – what have they learnt? What do they want to find out?
- Watch age appropriate historical documentaries/films and read stories and books based in the past. (These will probably have been fictionalised, but often the key historical knowledge remains correct). Goodnight Mr Tom and the Horrible Histories books are good examples.
- Encourage them to talk to elderly relatives about what life was like when they were little. Talk about how it is different and how.
