PSHE

At Albrighton Primary School we provide learning experiences  that encourage children to be responsible and caring members of the school and wider community. Through collaborative opportunities and regular ‘circletime’ we aim to help children to develop values of mutual understanding and respect of others. We want to develop responsible attitudes in order to lead, confident, healthy and independent lives. We make use of our wonderful school grounds to frequently take our PSHE learning outdoors.

Our curriculum

We have a whole school thematic approach so that different year groups are working on similar themes at the same time throughout the year, allowing for cross-phase collaboration and to enable us to link the PSHE curriculum to whole school assemblies.

We have chosen to use the core themes from the PSHE Association Programme of Study and the suggested topic titles from the PSHE Association Primary Planning Toolkit as a basis for our curriculum framework.

Core Themes from the PSHE Association Programme of Study  are covered across the three school terms as follows……

  • Autumn Term -  Core Theme 3: Living in the Wider World  (Rights and Responsibilities, Environment, Money)
  • Spring Term - Core Theme 2: Relationships (Feelings and Emotions, Healthy Relationships, Valuing Difference)
  • Summer Term -  Core Theme 1: Health and Wellbeing  (Healthy Lifestyles, Growing and Changing, Keeping Safe)

 Autumn term ...

Year 1 & Year 2

Year 3 & Year 4

Year 5 & Year 6

Spring term ...

What a strange term this one has been! Most of our pupils have been learning at home due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Obviously, we have needed to respond to this and have adapted our PSHE curriculum accordingly.

Each class has had a weekly 'catch up' via ZOOM which has provided the opportunity to see class mates, share news as well as concerns/ worries in a safe environment.

Year 1 & Year 2...

Children have regularly been asked to share work they are proud of in our Zoom meetings.

Having completed a self portrait, the children were asked to consider beyond their physical appearance and talk about their character. This led to conversation about 'difference' and how important it is to respect one another.....

Year 3 & Year 4...

As part of their PSHE learning this term, Y3 & 4 have learned about Safety in the Home, with a particular focus on Fire Safety....

Responding to the children's needs at this current time, children have also shared their worries and talked about strategies for coping....

Year 5 & Year 6 ...

Returning to school ......

We are so looking forward to welcoming you all back in school. In order to support  all pupils in settling back into school smoothly, we have chosen a book as a ‘hook’ for our learning in the first few weeks……..

‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers is a lovely book that will allow us to have planned experiences, supporting you to reflect on thoughts, feelings and responses arising from the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our learning over the next few weeks will explore key themes including:

  • Earth’s place in the wider universe
  • The Earth’s environment
  • How we, as humans, relate to each other
  • Other species and our responsibility towards them
  • Belonging and community
