Homework and Reading

In Racing a Rockets, reading books are usually changed once a week. Children are given three books for the week and receive a house point if they read three times at home.

Please comment in the diary when you hear your child read so that new books can be given.

Each child also has a Guided Reading session once a week, in addition to daily Phonics work.

We recently held a parent workshop which aimed to deliver support surrounding sentence ladders and reading at home.

In year 2, homework will consist of regular reading, weekly spellings and a maths activity each week. New spellings are given out on Thursday and maths homework are issued on a Friday. Both should be returned to school by Wednesday. The children are tested on their spellings on a Thursday.

At Albrighton Primary, we believe that homework should be a sharing experience between yourselves and your child.  Not only do we think it is so important for you to sit alongside your child in support, but we think it would be a lovely idea for you to mark their work with them.  This way you will be able to give immediate feedback and your comments will reflect how well your child did, whether on their own or with help.
